The Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)technology has been widely used in remote sensing in recent years. SAR images have a granular aspect, denominated speckle noise. The visual or/and automatic interpretation of these images can be drastically afected due to speckle. In order to minimize the effect of this noise, several filters have been proposed. Therefore, it is necessary to study the performance of these filters. The purpose of this work is to compare some speckle reduction filters, from the point of view of signal to noise ratio (SNR)improvement and spatial resolution loss. The SNR was measured calculating the equivalent number of looks in homogeneous areas. The resolution loss was assessed through the ability of the filters to preserve structures in the image, like edges. The Euclidean distance was computed to unify both criterions in a single measure.
